Understanding Origins from a Biblical Perspective

Session 5 – Oct 16 – The Flood, Fossils and Earth History

This session looks at the overwhelming support of the creation account from the fossil record and how the Genesis Flood relates to this topic and the interpretations of geological evolution. A Biblical overview of a global catastrophic flood is given, and the feasibility/sufficiency of Noah’s Ark is presented. The Tower of Babel, the Ice Age and the evidence for highly intelligent early man are also touched upon.

Key verses:

• Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; men and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left and those with him in the ark. – Gen 7:23
• They will say, "Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation." But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water and by water. By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. – 2 Pet 3:4-6
