B.S., Biology, Western State College, Gunnison, Colorado, M.S., Zoology, University of Northern Colorado. Former Staff, Institute for Creation Research.
Frank Sherwin received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Western State College, Gunnison, Colorado, in 1978. He attended graduate school at the University of Northern Colorado, where he studied under the late Gerald D. Schmidt, one of the foremost parasitologists in America. In 1985, Mr. Sherwin obtained a master’s degree in zoology. He published his research in the peer-reviewed Journal of Parasitology. He contributes his scientific expertise to a variety of ICR’s publications on creation science and is one of ICR’s most sought-after speakers. He is the author of The Ocean Book and Guide to Animals, co-author of The Fossil Record: Unearthing Nature’s History of Life and The Human Body: An Intelligent Design, and a contributor to Guide to Creation Basics and Creation Basics & Beyond.

Scientific Evidence For Creation/Design in Nature
(A favorite with audiences)
Content: We regularly hear from critics that “creation is either something you believe or don’t believe, but there’s no evidence for it.” The clear case for creation has as its foundation what Paul teaches in Romans chapter 1: that God’s living creation (even though it has been marred by sin) is “clearly seen.” Mr. Sherwin begins his presentation by describing the tools needed to discover objects that have been made (‘created’) vs. objects that form over time, chance and natural processes. Non-technical evidences for creation are then presented from the microscopic world (bacteria) and the macroscopic world (animals such as the bat and wood-pecker). Even evolutionists like the late G. Hardin of U.C. Santa Barbara admit that “nature itself challenges evolutionary theory.” The presentation is summarized from verses from Romans 1.
Audience: Jr. High to Adult Length: 60 min.
Human Evolution
(One of the weakest arguments for evolution)
Content: Ever since Darwin , evolutionists’ insistence that we accept our ‘primate ancestry’ has been troublesome to many Christians. However, the fossil record fails to show how such a strange progression of ape-to-man occurred. Alleged missing links are addressed (e.g. ‘Lucy’ and Neanderthals) as well as arguments from biochemistry (the similarity in human and chimpanzee DNA) and anatomy (tonsils, “tailbone” and the appendix). Devastating quotes from secular sources show the man-from-ape idea to be only speculative. The Bible, the fossil record and good science continue to show that people have always been people – created in God’s image. Key verse: Genesis 1:27.
Audience: High School to Adult Length: 50 min.
Creation, Evolutionism, and the Bible
(A seminar favorite – may be given anytime)
Content: In this important issue of origins, man has either been supernaturally created, or he evolved from lower forms of life over the alleged millions of years. In other words, where you came from is at least as important as to where you are going! Mr. Sherwin begins, with audience participation, by defining and discussing important words like science, life and evolution. Evolutionary theory, with its philosophical worldview and impact on society, is then compared to the Biblical worldview based on Genesis. Sherwin concludes with an appeal to the Christian to know WHY we believe WHAT we believe and why Genesis should be our rock-solid foundation.
Audience: All Ages Length: 40-70 min.
Creation Evangelism
(Suggested for Sunday Service)
Content: Scripture reading: Mark 4:2-9, 13-20—the four soils. Mark 4 is compared to Peter’s and Paul’s witness to unbelievers in Acts. In Acts 2, Peter speaks to Jews that already have their soil prepared. Their stumbling block to salvation was that the Lord Jesus was the Messiah. Peter directly addressed this and thousands were saved. In Acts 14 and 17, Paul spoke to pagans whose soil was not prepared but was cluttered with evolutionary humanism. He brought them “back to Genesis” by first describing who the Creator was and then taking them to the Cross. Paul didn’t get as many converts as Peter because the Jews already had the foundation. A comparison is then made of America of the past (people had the foundation due to a Biblical emphasis in society) versus today (a pagan culture with no Biblical foundation – no knowledge of God). ICR suggests presenting the Genesis creation first as we witness for Christ (the Creator) and His redemptive work on the Cross.
Audience: Adult Length: 40 min.
Dinosaurs & The Flood
(A seminar favorite – older children enjoy this talk about “missionary lizards.”)
Content: This interesting talk begins by asking children under twelve to identify pictures of some of the more popular “thunder lizards.” He then shows that a creationist and evolutionist can together dig up a dinosaur fossil. They will just disagree as to where the dinosaur came from, how long ago it lived, and what killed it! For example, secular scientists present many strange theories to the public about how the dinosaurs died off. What is missing is, of course, the massive Flood of Genesis. Quotes regarding huge floods on Mars are shown where there is not a drop of water seen. Key chapters: Job 40-41
Audience: Jr. High to Adult Length: 60 min.
Creation, Evolutionism & the Fossil Record
(Rock solid evidence for creation!)
Content: The “record of the rocks” (sedimentary strata found worldwide) will support either creation or evolution—this record cannot support both. The best physical, concrete evidence for creation is to be found in the billions of highly developed creatures found locked in these rock units. Indeed, a worldwide Flood (Genesis 6-9) is the best explanation as to why we find these creatures so well preserved. Fascinating Flood geology work on Grand Canyon and Mount St. Helens are also briefly discussed. Key chapters: Genesis 6 – 9
Audience: High School to Adult Length: 60 min.
The Demise of Darwinism
(Those who are convinced of Darwinian evolution should hear this!)
Content: Quotes taken from evolutionary sources show how this model of origins is a house built on sand. Mr. Sherwin takes the audience though each field in the life sciences showing, in non-technical language, how nothing is known for sure regarding macro-evolution (large change). Since there are two and only two models of origins, creation wins by default.
Audience: Adult Length: 70 min.
Mount St. Helens
(Bring your unbelieving friends to this talk!)
Content: Although only Noah and his family saw the Genesis flood occur, the Mount St. Helens explosion offers an outdoor laboratory of processes that probably occurred during the year-long event (Genesis 6-9). Many of the features which geologists believe take long periods have been seen to form rapidly: deposition, erosion, fossilization, petrifaction, coal formation, and radioisotope dating. All these areas of study point to a young earth!
Audience: Jr. High to Adult Length: 60 min.
Evolution is Against the Law
(Darwinism is clearly shown to be at odds with the very fabric of science.)
Content: Throughout our years of grade school and high school, we were taught that science has a number of laws, such as the law of cause and effect and the laws of genetics. Using non-technical language and easy-to-grasp concepts, Mr. Sherwin takes the audience through six of the best-known laws of science showing why the Biblical case for creation is supported by each and every law of science. Conversely, evolutionism fails at each one – it’s against the law!
Audience: Jr. High to Adult Length: 60 min.
Wonders of the Human Body
(Take a tour of our amazing body with its various interacting systems that could only have been designed by God)
Content: Think of a larger symphony producing the works of Mozart or Beethoven. It all begins with the individual playing his part. This is much like how our body operates with its 11 systems working in concert. Sadly, schools and the media erroneously teach that the human body is the result of “millions of years” of Darwinian evolution. No credit is given to the One who created these amazing systems designed to work as one. Consider our eye construction, the dynamic skeleton, the ability to hear the faintest sound, the brain’s amazing circuitry. The human body – a testament to our Creator’s wonderful intellect!
Audience: Jr. High to Adult Length: 60 min.
The Mighty, Wonderful Oceans
(A favorite with audiences)
Content: We sometimes take for granted the oceans of the world in all their majesty and power. Frank shows the amazing variety of life from tidal pools to the crushing depths over 5 miles down! Important paths or currents in the oceans mentioned in Scripture have been shown to exist. The critical significance of moon-induced tides giving us weather of the world is also discussed. Finally, the Genesis Flood is addressed with reference to the volume of water in the oceans.
Audience: Jr. High to Adult Length: 50 min.
